About Webb Driving Academy

Jim Webb is a professional driver with over 25 years of experience behind the wheel.

For many years he worked in central London as a traditional Black Cab driver, having successfully completed the rigorous Knowledge of London qualification. Few professional tests demand as much spatial awareness, route memory, and judgement of road conditions as the Knowledge — it is an exacting standard that requires years of dedicated study and practical development.

Alongside his professional driving career, Jim also worked as an instructor for both the IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) and RoSPA as an Advanced Motorcycle and Car Instructor. This work sits at the highest level of civilian driver training, focused on observation, anticipation, and the sustained discipline of consistently safe driving.

This extensive background in advanced driving instruction led him to pursue qualification as an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI), allowing him to bring his experience and knowledge to new drivers.

Jim initially worked as an ADI in London, where the complexity of urban driving provides a unique challenge for new drivers. This experience gave him a particularly strong understanding of city driving — reading traffic, managing junctions, and maintaining composure in demanding conditions.

At the same time, his advanced driving background gives him deep experience in rural and open road driving — the wider road picture, forward planning, and the discipline required outside of urban environments.

This combination allows him to provide a balanced and comprehensive driving education, drawing on real-world professional experience rather than teaching to the test alone.

With his background in advanced driver training, Jim is also well placed to offer refresher training and advanced driving coaching for existing drivers who wish to improve their skills and confidence on the road.
